Dreams to Reality

By Alexis Clark, Fellow Class of 2014
Colorado State University

As the third year of college comes to an end it is crazy to think that we are almost done. This year has been a difficult one with balancing everything; having to deal with family, working 40 hours and being in 19 credits for school. The main thing that Law School Yes We Can has helped me with this school year is the LSAT financial prep help. In a couple of weeks, I will be starting an LSAT prep course and I know for a fact that if I was not in this program I would not be able to afford or take this class, I am excited to have the opportunity to be able to better my score so that I can get into a good law school in the future. Even though it has been really hard keeping up with the prep and I am stressed on how I will be able to make it to the course while still balancing my life at the same time and I called Judge Arguello and she told me that cutting back on work may be a necessity in order to take this course to have thousands of dollars for law school later. I also called my Mentor G and he told me how putting in the work now is more important than anything else. It was really nice to be able to have people to call who understand my struggle and have already went through the struggles.

My mentors have been a great help to me. Currently I am looking for an internship for this summer and it is nice to be able to reach out to my mentors to have them help me with finding one for me.I am ahead in credit wise and I was going to graduate early but both my mentors Franz and G said slow down and enjoy it and G told me to go study abroad. Studying abroad was something I never really thought of and I am really excited to go and get out of my comfort zone.

My future plans have not changed, I still want to go to law school then work at a law firm and potentially go into politics or become a judge.  I cannot stress enough how much Law school Yes We Can has made these dreams turn into a close reality. I now have a road map of my life and know close to exactly what I need to do to achieve it and have meet some fantastic people to help me achieve those goals. Not only are the mentors great but I have gained some friends within Law School Yes We Can. I love seeing the people in my class and even keep in contact with them outside of the events. It is nice to be in a community of people with similar goals and who come from similar backgrounds to be able to talk to.
